About Me

Welcome to my site!

As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, I am Miranda.

And I apologize for my last name. I did have a choice, but I really liked my husband so I had to marry him. It’s pronounced O-HUSK-ee. It’s Polish.

I am a third generation South Dakotan. I love life here. People are nice, crime is low, items are less expensive, and life is slower. I live in the largest city in the state, and it takes me no more than 30 minutes to get from one end of town to the other. I get annoyed when there is traffic for more than 5 minutes. I have never lived on a farm, but my family owns farm land and they hunt on it.

My husband Jordan is the luckiest man in the world. We’ve been married since 2010 and somehow he still thinks I’m funny. I spend as much time with my family as I can. My mother is my best friend and I am, and always will be, Daddy’s little girl. My younger brother tries to be cooler than me, but so far he’s only managed to be taller.

In 2016, we finally welcomed our beautiful boy, Caleb, to the world. I say finally because we’ve been trying for 5 years to grow our family. That wait taught me me a lot about the phrase “all in God’s time.” I love being a mommy.

I attended the University of South Dakota for both my undergraduate and graduate studies. I have a Bachelor in Business Finance degree with a minor in Communication Studies and a Master in Business Administration degree. I wasn’t a big fan of finance. I love communication and marketing.

I co-lead a youth contemporary praise and worship band, Morning Star, with my husband at our church. My husband is gifted with many musical talents and amazes me every time he picks up an instrument or sings. I’m really good at being background noise (vocals and keys/piano).

I have always been passionate about writing. In 5th grade, I won a “Young Authors” contest at my school. It was a pretty big deal.

I am a public speaker. I was the person in Speech 101 in college who loved giving speeches – especially the impromptu ones.

I launched my business, Beyond Social, in November 2013. I went full time in May 2014, and have been incredibly happy being my own boss. Most of my work revolves around helping small businesses and nonprofits with their social media and marketing needs. In addition, I also do photography for events, corporate headshots, family, and seniors. You can check out more about me on my business Facebook page.

Because I’m not busy enough, I became the Executive Director at the Museum of Visual Materials in May 2015. My role here is worth the extra hours, though, as this nonprofit is a wonderful place to work.

I enjoy laughter and having fun.

I am an fan of books and movies, especially nerdy ones, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. I play video games with my husband. I craft. I love cooking and baking.

I’m working on becoming healthier and more fit. We’ve been trying to get pregnant since we got married in 2010, so it is our goal to create a healthier lifestyle in hopes that it will make conceiving easier. Most of my healthier living activity is posted on my Instagram account.

This is what I am living on today – Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. (NASB)

Mainly, I’m a work in progress.
